Hexotics.UK is a family-run specialist reptile breeder based in Leicester, United Kingdom. These terms apply to reptiles sold directly by Hexotics unless different terms are expressly agreed in writing before the sale.
Before a purchase is concluded we will confirm the animal, agreed price, payment arrangement, and collection or delivery method. Contact can be made through our Contact page.
2. The animal being sold
The animal shown in an individual Hexotics advert is the animal being offered. We do not substitute a representative animal of the same morph.
- We describe sex, known genetics, suspected genetics, age or hatch date, feeding status and relevant history as accurately as reasonably possible.
- Known and suspected genetics are identified separately where appropriate.
- Advertised weights are a guide because reptiles continually feed, digest and develop. A current weight can be supplied on request.
- If you believe the sex of an animal has been described incorrectly, please contact us within two days of receipt so we can investigate promptly. This request does not limit any statutory rights.
3. Health and feeding
We only release animals when we reasonably believe they are healthy, established and suitable to move to a new home. Unless an advert clearly states otherwise, animals offered by Hexotics are established on frozen-thawed prey and show no known signs of pests or disease at the point of sale.
Juveniles are not released until they have reached at least 150g, completed six consecutive successful feeds and are otherwise feeding, shedding and developing normally. If a feed is missed during this establishment period, the six-feed count starts again.
If you have a health concern when an animal arrives, contact us as soon as possible with clear information and, where useful, photographs or video. Urgent welfare concerns should be referred to an appropriate specialist reptile veterinarian without delay.
Temperament cannot be guaranteed. Although animals are handled appropriately while in our care, behaviour can change with age, environment, handling and individual circumstances.
4. Prices and payment
The agreed price will be confirmed before payment. Unless agreed otherwise, payment must be completed before an animal is collected, delivered or released to a third party acting for the purchaser.
Payment may be made by bank transfer, cash on collection, or PayPal where offered. Any PayPal payment for an animal must be made as a purchase for goods or services rather than as a personal Friends & Family transfer.
5. Reservations and reservation payments
We normally ask for a reservation payment of 25% of the agreed animal price to remove an animal from sale. A reservation is not complete until the amount and any payment timetable have been agreed.
If Hexotics cancels the sale before handover, any money paid for that sale will be returned in full.
If a purchaser cancels, Hexotics may retain only a fair and reasonable amount that reflects direct loss caused by the cancellation, taking into account our ability to relist or resell the animal. Any amount paid above that reasonable loss will be refunded. We do not apply a blanket rule that every reservation payment is automatically forfeited in every circumstance.
6. Payment plans
Payment plans are considered on a case-by-case basis and are generally intended for animals valued above £300. Animals priced below £200 will normally need to be paid in full at the time of purchase. For animals priced from £200 to £300 inclusive, payment is normally due in full before collection or delivery, unless a payment plan is expressly agreed in writing. Other arrangements may be agreed in writing.
- A 25% reservation payment will normally be required.
- For a payment plan, the minimum initial payment is normally £50.
- Typical payment periods are 30–60 days.
- If no specific end date is agreed in writing, the maximum payment period is 12 weeks.
- If a payment deadline cannot be met, contact us before the due date so we can discuss the position.
If an agreed plan is not completed and no revised arrangement can be reached, we may cancel the reservation and relist the animal. Any sums retained following cancellation will be handled under the fair-cancellation principles set out above rather than automatically forfeited.
Where a payment plan covers a group of animals, any later request to reduce the group may create a cancellation in relation to one or more animals. We will assess any direct loss reasonably and deal with payments on that basis.
7. Collection
Collection is available from Leicester, UK by prior arrangement. Exact collection details are supplied privately when a collection is confirmed.
Please arrive with a suitable secure transport container and follow any collection instructions provided. We reserve the right to delay handover if we reasonably believe immediate transport arrangements would put the animal at risk.
8. Courier and local delivery
Where delivery is required, Hexotics can arrange an appropriate DEFRA-licensed animal courier on the next suitable run after final payment and when the animal is ready to travel.
Courier routes and timings can change. If a delay occurs we will communicate with the purchaser and the courier and take reasonable steps to protect the animal's welfare. Nothing in these terms excludes any responsibility that UK consumer law places on Hexotics in relation to an arranged delivery.
Personal door-to-door delivery may be available within approximately 25 miles of Leicester by prior agreement.
9. Cancellations and statutory rights
Where UK law gives a purchaser a right to cancel, reject goods, obtain a refund or seek another remedy, these terms do not take that right away.
Because legal rights can differ depending on how a live animal is purchased, collected or delivered, contact us promptly if you need to cancel or if there is a problem with the animal supplied.
Do not send or transport a live animal back to Hexotics without first agreeing a safe return arrangement. This is for animal welfare and transport safety and does not remove any legal remedy that may apply.
10. Responsible sales and our right to decline
Animal welfare takes priority over completing a sale. Before handover we may ask reasonable questions about experience, intended housing, feeding and the planned home for an animal.
If we have genuine welfare concerns, we may decline to enter into a sale. If Hexotics cancels an already agreed sale before handover because we decide the placement should not proceed, money paid for that sale will be returned unless a different legal position applies because of a separate customer breach.
11. Purchaser responsibilities
The purchaser is responsible for preparing suitable housing and husbandry before taking possession of the animal, following appropriate species-specific care, and obtaining specialist veterinary treatment where necessary.
We strongly recommend an appropriate quarantine period when adding any new reptile to an existing collection, regardless of the source.
12. After-sale support
Our involvement does not end at handover. Purchasers are welcome to contact Hexotics with reasonable questions about the animal's previous feeding, recorded history, settling-in behaviour or husbandry.
Advice is provided in good faith based on our experience and the information available at the time. It is not a substitute for diagnosis or treatment by a qualified veterinary professional.
13. Records and privacy
Hexotics maintains animal and sales records to support traceability, husbandry history and responsible business administration. Personal information supplied by a purchaser will only be used where reasonably necessary for enquiries, completing a sale, arranging delivery, providing after-sale support, maintaining appropriate records, or meeting legal obligations.
14. Changes to these terms
The version of the terms provided or available when a purchase is agreed will apply to that transaction unless both parties agree a change in writing.
